Acrobatics Classes in Perth

For dancers who love to cartwheel across the living room, our acrobatics classes in Perth are a dream come true! Acrobatics (or “acro”) combines dance with gymnastic-style tricks, focusing on flexibility, balance, strength, and tumbling.

At Kalamunda Performers, our acro classes are carefully designed to complement dance training – students learn cool acro skills that they can eventually incorporate into performances, all under the guidance of certified instructors who prioritize safety.

What Do Students Learn in Acro?

Flexibility:

We work on deep stretching (splits, backbends) to improve range of motion. Increased flexibility helps dancers execute acro moves more fluidly and safely.

Balance:

From basic one-legged balances to partner balances, students build core strength and stability. Balance drills help with everything from handstands to standing acro tricks.

Floor tumbling:

Depending on level, students progress through skills like forward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, walkovers, handsprings, and even aerials (no-hands cartwheels) for advanced students. All skills are taught using mats and spotting when needed.

Strength training:

Acro demands strong muscles. Classes include conditioning exercises targeting arms, shoulders, core and legs, equipping dancers with the power needed for lifts and flips.

Our acrobatics classes are grouped by skill level and age, ensuring everyone works at a comfortable yet challenging pace. Beginners start with fundamental rolls and strength-building, while more advanced acro students at KP are mastering aerial tricks. This program is an excellent add-on for jazz, hip hop or contemporary dancers looking to spice up their routines with tricks, as well as for any child who loves tumbling around.

To participate in Acrobatic classes, students must also be enrolled in an additional genre such as Jazz, Lyrical, or Classical. This supports the development of linking choreography and ensures a well-rounded foundation when creating performance routines.

Safety is our top priority – we ensure students have mastered prerequisites before moving to harder skills. Our instructors support and spot students until they are confident and strong enough to perform skills independently.
