We have classes for children as young as 18 months old! Our Ready Set Dance programs are specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers (walking –5 years). For school-aged kids, we offer a full range of styles starting at 5–6 years. No matter when your child starts, we’ll place them in an age-appropriate class where they can thrive.
Absolutely – in fact, most of our classes are beginner-friendly, especially at the younger levels. If you’re looking for beginner dance classes in Perth, you’ve come to the right place. We offer beginner-friendly classes designed specifically for each age group. For younger dancers, we have fun and supportive intro-level classes to help them build confidence and foundational skills.
For older beginners, we offer:
Our experienced teachers are experts at welcoming new dancers—whether it’s their first time in the studio or they’re returning after a break. No experience? No problem. There’s a place for everyone to start and thrive at KP!
Yes! We encourage a new student to take a trial class. It’s the best way to see if they enjoy it (and they usually do!). Just register here to arrange a trial for the class you’re interested in. This way your child can meet the teacher, and join the fun. After the trial, you can decide on enrolment.
For trial classes or first timers, something comfy they can move in (like leggings/shorts and a t-shirt) is fine. If you join, we do have a uniform for each class style: usually a Kalamunda Performers leotard or tee with dance shorts/leggings, plus the appropriate shoes (ballet, jazz and tap shoes, etc.). You can check out our Uniforms page for specifics. We also sell required dancewear at our studio shop for your convenience. And don’t worry – we’ll give you all the uniform details upon enrolment.
Our enrolment is done online via our Fees & Signup portal – it’s quick and easy. We charge fees per school term (usually an 8–10 week block). Payment can be made upfront or via payment plan installments to spread it out. We also offer family discounts if you have multiple children dancing. All the pricing info and a step-by-step sign-up guide are available on the Enrolment & Fees page. If you need any help, our admin team is just a phone call away!
At KP, our focus is on creating an enjoyable and inclusive dance experience for all. While the majority of our students dance for fun and personal growth through our recreational classes, we do offer some opportunities for competitions.
Our competition program is a smaller part of the studio, and participation is by interest only, with certain requirements in place. We offer solo, duo, trio, and troupe opportunities for dancers who are ready for the extra commitment and performance experience.
We no longer offer dance exams, but our class streams provide progression and challenge for those wanting to develop their skills further. Whether your dancer is here once a week for fun or pursuing performance goals, there’s no pressure—just support for each dancer’s individual journey.
Yes! All students get to perform in our big end-of-year showcase, KP Minis and Juniors in October and Seniors in December, which is a fantastic, professionally staged show. These performances are highlights of the year – costumes, lights, and tons of applause for our dancers! Participation is encouraged as it’s a confidence-building experience, but of course it’s not mandatory. We also sometimes get invited to community events (like fairs or festivals) where certain classes might perform, giving students additional chances to shine on stage.
Absolutely! Dance is for everyone. We have boys in many of our classes – from preschoolers in Ready Set Dance to teenage hip hop and even ballet. All our classes are co-ed, and we ensure a welcoming environment for boys and girls alike. In fact, some of the world’s greatest dancers are male, and we love seeing our boy dancers thrive and inspire others to give dance a go.
We are experienced in working with children of all personalities and needs. Our teachers are very patient and will never push a child to perform until they’re ready. Many shy children blossom after a few weeks in dance – they gain confidence as they make friends and learn new skills. If your child has specific needs (physical, developmental, etc.), please let us know. We might recommend starting with our Dance Abilities class (for those who need a smaller, specialized class) or integrating them into a regular class with a bit of extra support. We’re committed to finding the best fit for every dancer.
