Kalamunda Performers (“KP” to our friends) began with a simple belief: dancing should be fun for everyone. Founded in 1998 by Principal Teachers Angela Jowett and Michelle Ginbey, our Perth-based dance studio has grown into a vibrant community of dancers and families. Angela and Michelle combined over 50 years of professional dance and teaching experience to create a studio where high-quality training and a genuine love of dance go hand in hand.
Following Angela’s retirement in 2020, her daughter Breanne Lucas—who had already been an integral part of KP for many years—stepped into a leadership role alongside Michelle. Breanne’s long-standing involvement and passion for dance have been key in shaping KP into the thriving, inclusive studio it is today.
From the beginning, our motto has been “Inspire, Grow, Belong.” We strive to inspire our students through creative, engaging classes; help them grow in skills and confidence; and make everyone feel they belong in our dance family. We welcome dancers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds – from the tiniest toddler taking their first steps to the adult rediscovering their passion for dance.
We pride ourselves on a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. Walking into KP, you’ll see smiles, high-fives, and a genuine camaraderie between students, parents, and teachers. We keep class sizes optimal for personal attention, and our instructors truly get to know each student. It’s this personal touch, along with our commitment to age-appropriate choreography and costuming, that parents often tell us makes KP feel like a second home for their kids.
At the same time, we maintain high standards of dance education. We’ve seen countless students flourish under this structured yet supportive approach – gaining not just ribbons and trophies, but life skills like discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
Over the years, we’ve invested in creating a safe, professional space for our dancers. Our venue features spacious studios with sprung flooring (to protect those growing joints!), full-length mirrors, barres, and quality sound systems – everything needed for effective training. We also provide a comfortable waiting area for parents to relax during classes, and a small in-house shop for any dancewear needs.
We’re incredibly proud of our dance family’s achievements. From local eisteddfods where our teams have performed brilliantly, to national recognition like being a finalist in the Ready Set Dance awards, KP continues to make its mark. Even more important to us, though, are the personal victories – the shy child who gains confidence to dance in front of an audience, the teen who develops leadership assisting younger classes, or the adult who achieves a fitness goal through dance. These stories are our true “why.”
