Lyrical Dance Classes in Perth

Lyrical dance is known for its heartfelt, flowing quality – it’s often described as dancing “like the lyrics of a song.” Our lyrical dance classes in Perth combine the technique of ballet and jazz with a strong emphasis on expression and storytelling.

At Kalamunda Performers, lyrical dancers learn to convey the emotion behind the music, whether it’s joy, sorrow, love or hope, through every reach and turn.

What You’ll Experience in Lyrical Class:

Fluid movement:

We teach dancers how to connect steps seamlessly, creating fluid lines and transitions. Movements in lyrical are soft and continuous, helping dancers develop grace and control.

Emotional expression:

In class, teachers might ask, “What is this dance saying?” Dancers practice using facial expressions and body language to tell a story – a great confidence builder and emotional outlet.

Technique meets artistry:

Lyrical uses ballet and jazz techniques (think pirouettes, arabesques, leaps) but in a more relaxed way. We ensure students maintain good technique even as they pour artistry into each step.

Stretch and strengthen:

Because lyrical often involves extensions (high leg lifts) and floorwork, we include plenty of stretching and core strengthening to safely increase flexibility and control.

We offer lyrical dance classes for all ages and experience levels—from junior beginner classes to pre-teen start and advanced options. Lyrical is a beautiful, expressive style that blends elements of ballet and jazz, allowing dancers to connect deeply with music and emotion through movement.

While lyrical is accessible to beginners, we do recommend taking a ballet class alongside to help refine technique and support overall development. Many of our lyrical dancers also enjoy contemporary classes, as the two styles work beautifully together.

Whether your child is new to lyrical or looking to deepen their dance journey, there’s a class at Kalamunda Performers to inspire and support their growth.

Dancing lyrical is a wonderful way to connect emotion with movement. We often see our lyrical dancers truly feel the music and gain confidence in sharing their feelings through dance.
